Why productions call us

Three problems we solve before they reach the schedule.

The schedule cannot slip

Full-cast screening around your filming dates, last-minute retests before travel or the first day on location, and instant tests with results in minutes, on the production floor if that is where they are needed.

Results must stay private

Contributors get their results and clinical support directly from our team. Production receives only the confirmation your protocol needs, with the contributor's consent. NDAs signed without drama.

Duty of care needs evidence

Since April 2021, Ofcom's participant-welfare rules have made due care a commissioning condition, and broadcasters push it down to producers in writing. Clinician-led screening, properly documented, slots straight into your welfare risk assessment.

What we deliver

Built around your format, not our menu.

No price list: every production is quoted against its cast size, locations and dates.

How it works

From first call to wrap, in five steps.

  1. 1

    A conversation under NDA

Tell us the format, the cast size and the dates. We sign your NDA first and quote against the production, not a rate card.

  2. 2

A clinical plan for the production

Our clinicians design the screening protocol with your welfare team: what is tested, when, where, and what happens on a positive. Window periods and retest points are stated plainly, so your risk assessment reflects reality.

  3. 3

    Screening before filming

Contributors are tested at a clinic near them, by a nurse we send, or at your production base. Results are fast, and repeat tests are scheduled around travel and first filming days.

  4. 4

    Results, handled properly

Each contributor receives their own results and clinical support directly from our team, including treatment pathways and our 24/7 line. Production receives the consented confirmation your protocol requires, and nothing more.

Instant tests: results in minutes Laboratory tests: most within 1 to 2 days
  5. 5

    On-set cover and documentation

Instant testing on the floor where the format needs it, out-of-hours support through the shoot, and the completion documentation your duty of care file needs at wrap.

Discreet testing in a constantly changing production environment

The challenge

Channel 4 required a trusted provider to deliver discreet STI testing in a constantly changing environment, with quick turnaround times. Participants needed bespoke testing while maintaining strict privacy and minimising disruption to filming schedules.

The solution

Better2Know provided on-site instant testing, supported by secure reporting and expert clinical oversight, bringing testing equipment to the production floor for maximum turnaround speed and convenience. During the programme we delivered dozens of on-demand STI tests with accurate, reliable results.

The result

After the success of earlier seasons, the production brought Better2Know back for the 2024 series. Every test was handled professionally, to the highest standards of clinical care, and the production proceeded knowing participants had professional testing and support in line with industry best practice.

FAQs

The questions welfare and production teams ask first.

How fast can you turn a full cast around?

Instant tests return results in minutes and can run on location. Laboratory panels mostly return within 1 to 2 days. For a typical cast we build the screening schedule backwards from your travel and filming dates, with retest points where the clinical picture needs them.

Who sees the results?

The contributor and our clinical team. Production receives only the confirmation agreed in the screening protocol, with the contributor's written consent. Clinical details are never shared with production, broadcasters or third parties.

Will you sign our NDA?

Yes, before you tell us anything commercially sensitive. Discretion is the core of our consumer business and it transfers intact: our clinicians have worked around cameras, contributors and press-sensitive formats for years.

Does Ofcom require testing?

No. Ofcom's participant-protection rules require due care proportionate to risk; health screening is one of the ways productions discharge and evidence that duty. We support your welfare protocol with clinician-led screening and the documentation to file against it. What testing to commission remains your production's decision.

Can you handle a positive result mid-shoot?

Yes. The contributor is contacted by our clinicians with results, counselling and treatment pathways, supported by our 24/7 line. Production is told only what the consented protocol allows. We plan this scenario with your welfare team before filming starts, so nobody improvises on day 14.

Do you also do psychological assessments?

No. Psychological assessment sits with your duty of care psychologist, and we work alongside them as the physical health screening layer. Between the two, your welfare file covers both halves of the Ofcom picture.
